bulldog HOYAS vs. TOWSON STATE (31-41) (0-12)

It was a tough day for the Hoyas last saturday. Illness running through the team like the plague we were depleated and perhaps a bit confident after last weeks win. Towson came out like deamons in the first half rucking us out of everything. Their first few tries were break aways including one off a number 8 pick up around the 22 line. Frankly we were looking limp, no flare, just barley hanging on. The twenty minute water break came around and it looked like we were on track for a really good thumping. But there was still a long way to go to the end of the game so we held on until Rob Wrona out of no where through a dummy selling most of the forwards and found a huge gap and ran it in for the Hoyas first try. That set some life into the rest of the team and we went into half time on the attack, but still losing heavily.

The second half we stepped up the pace after some inspiring words from our new coach Chris. Towson was tired and we were just getting started. Every thing was better, the rucking and the hands. We attacked and we scored. A brilliant ball from Chris Bletch to Jean-Baptiste moving with incredible pace set up freshman center Ryan Burke's first try for G-town with a powering finish. Senior winger Steve Yang also scored following a great passage of play which steve had the pace to finish off. Of course Jim Goodfellow is never without a try, he scored two great trys using his incredible pace. However even despite the great play at times in the second half the Hoyas failed to prevent Towson from scoring a few times as well, which was utimatly our downfall. Final 31-41, I think we can learn a lot from this one.

The B-side game was cut short due to time constraints on the field but looked very promising and have learnt a lot in these first few weeks but they still have a lot of work to do.

SCORING:
A-side -- Jim Goodfellow (2t, 3/5c); Rob Wrona (1t); Ryan Burke (1t); Steve Yang (1t).

B-side -- none Key: t = try ; pk = penalty kick ; c = conversion; dg = drop goal.

bulldog HOYAS @ GEORGE MASON (22-10)

The first half of the game was rather stagnent with the team quickly down by ten points. Dispite this the team was calm and confident of its abilities which it would show later in the game. Before the half the forwards pushed over a try touched down by Adam "oh my knockers" Rhode, and Jim Goodfellow gave a great individual effort running around most of the Mason backs to score a try.

Second half, Jim put over a penaly kick but the highlight was still to come. Jean-Baptiste intersepted a ball inbetween the scrum half amd fly half, ran it up 10 yards before passing it to Chris Bletch who passed it to Hap Proesel who took a tackle and passed it to Carl "Buzzard" Ludwickson who then passed it back to Hap who ran it in for a try. WOW! It seems all of the drills are finally paying off, if we could pull out more plays like that we really would be good. Anyway toward the end of the game a tough defence was needed by the Hoyas, and a tough defence was provided.

Overall, good in patches but some work still needed. Defence was excellent throught the whole game.

B-side was cancelled, sorry guys.
